Côte d'Ivoire
Côte d'Ivoire
had to blame nobody else but themselves for their failure to reach the
second round.
Drawn into a 'group of death'
with Cameroon and Ghana it was clear before that one of those at least
would fail to reach the second round. But blowing it because of a lenient
approach against Togo was something that must have led to the resentments
against the team at home that led to the detention of the squad in a military
camp after the tournament as punishment. An act completely against the
ethics and sense of sport and another example that there are a lot of people
which have no respect of the beautiful game.
Côte d'Ivoire finally
played a fantastic match against hosts Ghana but it had been too late and
they came one goal short.
As well the match against
Cameroon had shown a difference: the later African Champions were too superior
at their best.
Côte d'Ivoire who
are as consistent as the most West African federations will arrive with
a new coach next time, of course. As they always do... |
